About Casper Cornelius Olsen Malmo
Kasper Malmo was born in North Trøndelag and ran away as a teenager. He went to sea, changed his name to George, married Leonora Jack in London, had his first child in Scotland, then this child immigrated to New Zealand along with two siblings.
KASPER MALMO ran away from his family in Malm, nord Trondelag,Norway when as a 16 year old, he had a relationship with the familiy's servant girl and got her pregnant. Story goes that his parents refused to allow them to marry, so Kasper ran away to sea and became a merchant seaman.
His Norwegian family never heard from him again, until my family members contacted those in Malm sometime in the 1950's ( not sure how that connection was made)
At some point he anglicised his name to George, married in UK, my Grandfather George Caspar Malmo was born in Glasgow, Scotland, he eventually emigrated to New Zealand as an adult, hence me growing up thinking we were from Scottish ancestry......always wondering why no-one else had this surname of MALMO as I did. ( I am Scottish through my grandmother though, Emma Margaret McPhee)
