Caswell, Sr. was the son of Archie and Mary Graham Deese. He married Rosie Lowry on Nov. 7, 1917 in Pembroke, NC. He was a veteran of World War I.
The following was taken from the Jul. 12, 1955 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:
The funeral service of Caswell Deese, 60, of route 1, Pembroke, who died at his home Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, after an illness of several years, was held yesterday afternoon at four o'clock at Berea Baptist church. The rites were conducted by Rev. T. M. Sweatt, Rev. J. R. Lowry, and Rev. Dawley Maynor. Burial was in St. Anna Baptist church cemetery.
He had been a member of the Burnt Swamp Baptist church for thirty years, and was a farmer in the Pembroke area.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Lowry Deese; his mother, Mrs. Mary Graham Deese; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Deese Lowry; five sons, Junior, Caswell, Jr., James, Hardy, and Ertel Deese; two sisters, Mrs. Ralph Lowry and Mrs. McLaurin Jacobs; two brothers, John D. and Slocum Deese; five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were all fellow members of the Pembroke lodge of the Woodman of the World: Lonnie Revels, Wayne Maynor, Simeon Oxendine, Dorsey V. Lowry, Ira Pate Lowry, and Delton Lowry.
Special music was given by a quartet, composed of Mrs. Gaston Revels, Lock Brantley Locklear, Clarence Oxendine, and James Fulton Lowry, with Mrs. James F. Lowry at the piano.
Flowers were in charge of Mrs. Rose Carter.
