Catharina "Tienie" Botha (1931 - 2009)

Brief overview:

Tienie (78), the ex Mayoress of Louis Trichardt was on the 19th February 2009 found beaten, strangled and wrapped naked in a sheet in the living room of farm Harnham, now known as Harnham House Guesthouse, Louis Trichardt. There were "burglary signs", including curved wire in the form of a horse shoe, which were found on the yard's fence. An expert told her daughter, Susaar Schlesinger and the family that the signs were there, meaning the house was "ready" for burglary and little resistance could be expected.

  • The four suspects were stopped in a Police road block and arrested. The driver sped away, but was arrested after a chase, Capt. Police spokesman Maano Sadike said. Sadike said expensive jewellery, clothing and five firearms were stolen from Botha and found in the bakkie on the night with the arrests. The suspects aged between 26 to 32, two of whom were from Zimbabwe, appeared in court.
