About Catharine Douglass

Also seen as oldest daughter of Charles Musgrove with his 1st wife, Catherine Parrander. Mike Marshall’s database does not show a son Benjamin Musgrove.

Catherine Musgrove (1725-1768), daughter of Benjamin Musgrove & Martha Keech, married 1st to John Harris (1708-1742), probably as his 2nd wife. He was the son of Thomas Harris & Martha Sandbury; 2 children:

  • 1. Martha Harris, b. Abt 1740, Charles County, Maryland
  • 2. Thomas Harris, b. 1 Aug 1741, Charles County, Maryland , d. 21 Mar 1815, Charles County, Maryland

Married 2nd to Joseph Douglass, Sea Captain (1675-1756) as his 3rd wife. He was the son of John Douglass & Sarah Bonner. 2 children:

  • 1. Joseph Douglass, b. Between 1744 and 1747, Charles County, Maryland, d. Aft 1768, Charles County, Maryland (Age ~ 25 years) [natural]
  • 2. Elizabeth Douglass, b. 1748, Charles County, Maryland , d. 19 Jul 1787, Dorchester, Maryland

William Edgar Marshall Note:

  • The will of Joseph Douglas stated that his wife Catherine was to have the use of his riding chair until his son Joseph Douglas was 21 years of age, the chair to go to him then. Catherine Douglas, in her will, left her riding chair to her daughter Elizabeth Smoot, and at her death to her daughter-in-law Anne Harris, wife of Thomas. Very very seldom have we found anyone who possessed a riding chair, as it was indeed a luxury in that period. And in this case, it seems probable that both Joseph and Catherine had one.
