Catherine Askey (Lloyd)

Obit-Gonzales Inquirer January 9, 1900

Died, at the family residents four miles from Gonzales, on Monday, January 8, 1900, at 3:30 p.m., Mrs. Catherine Askey, wife of Mr. H. Askey, 72 years, 19 days.

The funeral procession will move from the family residence this evening at 4 0'clock to the Wilson cemetery where the interment will take place.

Mrs. Askey was one of the oldest residents of the county and the Askey home on the west side of the river is known to almost the whole country. For many years it was like a loan sentinel to a large territory and many travelers found shelter and hospitality within the home. Mrs. Askey lived a retired life, but those who knew her to speak kindly of her and her loyalty to her family and its duties. She leaves an aged husband and several grown children and other relatives to mourn her loss.

Catherine Lloyd was born on December 20, 1820 in Arkansas City, Arkansas, Arkansas, United States.

Catherine married Harrison Askey on May 6, 1841 in Hempstead County, Arkansas. Together they had the following children:

4. Selete Ann Askey;
5. John Lloyd Askey;
6. Pernelia Askey;
7. Elijah Clinton Askey;

12. Sam Askey.

She died on January 8, 1900 in Gonzales, Texas, United States.
