About Catherine Spielman

Catherine was baptized at the Apple's Reformed Church as Catharine Bossert. She was presented by her parents and sponsored by her father's sister, Barbara Bossert the 11th of September, 1788.

The school attended by these youngsters is unknown. There was a school at Apple's Church and later in time, one was built near the Brown Cemetery at Foxville. Both schools were located a great distance from "Stoney Lick."

Catherine was fourteen years of age when her father was injured and as her sister Sarah, she was a great aid to her family with the domestic work and care offered to the father. She was twenty-one years old at the time a license was issued to Catherine Bussard and John Weaver the 6th of June, 1809. Catherine and John had seven children but only Daniel who was born in 1821 survived from this marriage.

There is a final account at the Frederick Court House for a John Weaver and recorded before the year 1826. The family of Daniel Weaver state that he moved to Ohio at eight years of age which is about the time that Samuel, Catherine's brother, moved to the same territory. Catherine first settled in Tuscarawas County and later moved to Delaware County, Ohio.

Following the death of Mr. Weaver, Catherine married a Mr. Heminger and they had a son by the name of Peter; he died after moving to Delaware County. Daniel, the only survivor of eight children married Catherine Van Sickle and nine children were born to them. Vay Wells' "History of Daniel and Catherine Van Sickle Weaver" relates that "it has been said of them that on one who sought food or shelter was turned away;' they were good neighbors, always ready to lend a helping hand." Daniel spent his last years on the farm that he homesteaded and was provided care by his daughter-in-law, Owella Weaver, wife of William.
