Cecile was remembered by her family as a small, but firm, housewife and mother until her death in 1958. Like most of the Voltaires, she spoke fluent French and the elders often spoke in their native tongue when they did not want the children to know what they were talking about. The children always referred to them as "taunt Cecile, taunt Mimi, taunt Dele."
Cecile was a very modest, religious woman who loved gardening and was often referred to as "having a green thumb."
