About Chana Lis
The Lubliner family was among the first (if not the first) Jews in Slomniki and were the prominent Jewish family of Slomniki. Their surname derived because their forebearer Shraga Feivel Lubliner (circa 1773-1841) was a follower of the Seer of Lublin (whose last name was Horowitz) - the founder of Chassidus in Poland in the early 1800's. Many prominent rabbinic and chasidic families married into the Lubliner and Lis families.
Yisroel Lis and Chana Lubliner were married in Koniecpol, Poland in December 1844 (I (Shabsa Lis) have a copy of the marriage record), so that the Lis family (that is,Yisroel Lis) moved from his hometown of Koniecpol to Slomniki sometime in the late 1840's - early 1850's. Koniecpol is about 50 kilometers east of Czestochowa, Poland.
