About Elozor Shraga Josek Lis

Elozor Shrage was a good looking, healthy, well respected, learned and observant man. He made clay bricks for the construction trade, was considered middle class and sat on the first bench near the Aron Chodesh when he davened in the main synagogue.

Elozor had 2 houses. The front house was rented. Behind it was a 4 roomed house with a garden and apples trees. The grandchildren used to love to steal his fuit.

It seemed to me that I heard many years ago that there were brothers of Elozor Shraga who came to America before World War I. But I thought I heard this from Nusia Nahir of Tel Aviv (she is the daughter of Ziskind Lis - your grandfather's younger brother) and she denies it. So I probably heard it from someone else or am just making it up.

Told to Rena Horwitz by Shabsa Lis
