Channa Rachel Halberstam [Shineva 4th wife]

When Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga Halberstam's third wife passed away, he decided not to re-marry. R' Shalom of Belz would not permit this, and himself arranged a shidduch with a relative of his. R' Shalom guaranteed a dowry for her, but passed away before the wedding, leaving no money. One of R' Yechezkel's chassidim warned him not to marry the woman as she was extremely ugly. R' Yechezkel declared, "Not only penniless, but ugly too? If I do not marry her, who will eventually do so?" To his close friends he said, "I am marrying her purely for the sake of heaven, and I am certain that from this match will come worthy sons, as it says (Tanna D'vei Eliyahu Zuta 3), 'He who marries a woman for the sake of heaven will have sons worthy of helping Israel in times of trouble.'" And so it was. One of the sons she bore him was R' Avrohom Shalom, head of the Bais Din of Stropkov - a great tzaddik.
