About Charles Ackroyd
He was educated in England. From 1827 he served in the Russian Empire. In 1828 he moved to Mykolaiv (Ukraine) at the invitation of the Commander-in-Chief of the Black Sea Fleet, Vice Admiral OS Greig. He served as the architect of the Black Sea Admiralty Department under the direction of the city's chief architect, Fyodor Vunsh, and later actually served as the chief architect (he never received an official appointment to this position). In Mykolaiv, Charles Acroyd served almost 27 years. In 1855 he was deported to Moscow after the capture of Sevastopol by Anglo-French troops during the Eastern (Crimean) War. His further fate is unknown.
