About Charles Alexander Blackbeard

He was Chairman of the Kroonstad Coal and Estate Company and Director of the Griqualand West Diamond Mine Company. He served as a Trooper in the Diamond Field's Horse in the War of 1877-1878. He became Captain and Adjutant in the Beaconsfield Town Guard during the Siege in the South African War. He was mentioned in Colonel Kekewich's despatches. Medals issued to C.A. Blackbeard - South African 1877-79 with 1878 clasp, Queen's South African 1899-1902 with Defence of Kimberley clasp and Mayor of Kimberley's Star 1899-1900.
