He may have settled in Crab Orchard, KY., but his son, Thomas Cole Humber, is buried at the Crab Orchard, KY, cemetery.

It would seem that his wife had died, either in Virginia or in Kentucky. Apparently, Charles Christian left his son Thomas, perhaps a teenager at the time, for a visit to his brother, John, in Alabama, where he met a woman whom he married and by whom he had a second

family (Bobby Prince, descendant). According to the Humber Book, Charles Christian, the tenth child, came to AL to visit his brother John, where he met and married Lettice Hammon. Marriage by John H. Norris. Charles and Lettice then settled in AL near Mud Creek (Little Warrior). The number of their children is undetermined. This same info is found in the History of Fayette Co. AL

According to an email I received from Guy Newland on July 27, 1999:

On one print out I received from some one I have Charles Christian HUMBER born May 27, 1781 married to an unknown COLE. They had 5 children. One of their children being Thomas Cole HUMBER born January 1804.

No other spouse noted.

Then I have another print out that list a Charles Christian HUMBER born May 27, 1781 married to Lettice Susan HAMMON born 1808 in Tennessee, married September 17, 1818. They had 9 children.

No other spouse noted.

According to an email received from Sandy Cooper [MB2JSC@@aol.com] on 8/3/99:

From Alabama Records, Jefferson County written by Jones and Gandrud, page 39:

Humber, Charles Christian and Lettice Hammon, 13 September 1818, solemnized 17 September 1818, Blount County, Alabama. Consent of Robert Hammon, father of Lettice. Sworn to by Robert Hammon, Junior. Page 145, by John H. Morgan.

Other email from Sandy Cooper said:

According to Jemison David (J.D.) Humber, originally from Dora, Walker Co., Alabama, but now from Dallas, TX, J.D.'s Grandparents, Colemon Flemon ALMAN/ALMON/ALLMAN and Catherine Christian HUMBER Allman are my ggGrandparents! J.D.'s mother, Lucinda ALLMAN Humber, was my gGrandmother's (Sarah Alice ALLMAN Harvell) sister! This makes J.D. and I third cousins via our mutual ALLMANs ... I think 6th cousins on our HUMBER side.

J.D.'s father is/was Charles Levi HUMBER, and Charles's father was Joseph HUMBER, Joseph's father was Charles Christian HUMBER. Hmmm. I am thus guessing that J.D.'s grandfather, Joseph, is the "Buddy" listed on the 1850 Jefferson Co AL as the 4 year old son of Susan HUMBER. J.D. was adament that Joseph was the brother of Catherine C. HUMBER, and knows of no other names for his Joseph HUMBER grandpa.

Joseph being Catherine HUMBER's brother makes J.D.s' father, Charles HUMBER and J.D.'s mother, Lucinda ALLMAN, cousins, J.D. said. After J.D.'s mother died when he was very young, his father, Charles, remarried. Charles's second wife was Delphia HUTCHINS Wilkey (her last name with their 1st marriage).

1. Charles Christian HUMBER was said to have tucked a Rooster under his shirt, boarded a steamship (J.D. thinks Charles boarded at Mobile AL) for New Orleans to participate in Cock Fight Competition..Charles was never seen nor heard of again......so the family story goes, J.D. convincingly told me. J.D. says that is why Charles in not buried with other family at Big Creek.

2. Elizabeth CHRISTIAN Humber's parents, Charles CHRISTIAN II and Mary LEAKE Christian, came to US from the Isle of Mann, J.D. said. I've not been able to confirm this, and all my info is in VA. But.....

3. Colemon ALLMAN (I'll use that spelling) was at least 3/4 Indian--Cherokee or Creek--most likely Cherokee. (J.D. doesn't know the names of Cole's parents or siblings.) Cole's wife, Catherine HUMBER, looked to be Indian, also. He said some HUMBER and ALLMAN relatives of his have had Indian looking children showing up right along the lines to this day!

4. J. D. has a PHOTO of Colemon and Catherine Humber Allman, and will be snail mailing me a copy (I'm snail mailing him photo copies and info, too). I will then put it on my scanner, and e-mail copies to ya'll.

5. For my HARVELL relatives: J.D. knew Willis HARVELL (my Grandpa' brother)from Oak Grove, AL. J. D. said that HARVELL, HUMBER, and ALLMAN real estate property was joined together, and paths lead to each others home. J.D., b. 1911, attended school in Oak Grove AL where my Grandpa Rube Harvell, son of George and Sarah Alice Allman HARVELL, was born.

6. Indian blood had a lot of stigmatism, and the topic was avoided for the most part--taboo. J.D. said people knew, but just did not comment. They couldn't help but know--it was there to SEE, J. D. said.

7. J.D. confirmed that Cole ALLMAN was a Reverand/Preacher.

8. J.D. said he'd cleaned Catherine's and other ALLMAN and HUMBER graves as he yearly visited the cemeteries in May.

9. J.D. said that while walking in the woods, his Dad sang Indian songs for him, but that there were no words, and only sounds. J.D.'s father told him that the family had a lot more Indian blood than German (HUMBERs are German? I don't know...I thought English, but J.D. said they were in Germany first, and that makes sense.)

10. J.D. spoke in the letter copy Vi sent me, plus during my phone conversation with him, at length about HUMBER history. J.D. mentions that fifty years ago he found HUMBER in an "American Britanica Encyclopedia (Ohio)." From what J.D. can recall, this HUMBER was "listed as being a HUNNISH KING." This HUMBER "was some time around 270 AD somewhere in Southern Europe. There is more to the story if anyone wants me to, I can type it out, and e-mail it. It's very interesting in theory, but not proved.

11. J.D. always heard Lettice Susan HUMBER referred to as Susan--did not know the name Lettice. He said Susan was Indian--Creek or Cherokee. Back then, J. D. explains, it was either marry a relative, or an Indian! (J.D.'s parents are cousins, as we've all seen a lot in that time period with our genealogy bone digging.) J.D. said that hush, hush tones were used by the elders while speaking of "BLACK FOX," whom J.D. believes to have been the Indian name of Susan's father. J. D. said that Susan HUMBER's grave is set off apart from the rest of the family, and he wonders WHY? (I'm guessing that Susan, or her children, chose that to be.)

Vi e-mailed me: "Willis Humber was my great-grandmother's first husband and they had at least one child. He never returned from the Civil War. Willis was one of Susan's children." So Vi is related to me via Margaret and Willis HUMBER. Margaret was my Catherine's sister, and Willis was Catherine and Margarets' brother (all HUMBERs).

According to BLM records Land Patent Reports, Charles C. HUMBER bought land South of the Black Warrior River (Tuscaloosa Land Office) 20 Sept 1839--6.50 acres and 40.125 acres the same date.

He was married to Lettice Susan HAMMON (daughter of Robert "Dark Fox" HAMMON and Mother Of Lettice HAMMON) on 17 SEP 1818 in Jefferson Co., AL.(23) Lettice Susan HAMMON (2) was born in 1808 in TN. She died on 20 JUL 1870 in AL. She was buried in Big Creek Cemetery, Jefferson Co., AL - six miles from Oak Grove, AL. Jefferson Co. was created 1819

Jemison D. Humber (J.D.) says that Susan was Cherokee or Creek Indian.
