[246]CHARLES CONE, son of Timothy Cone [117], b. in Marietta, 0., Oct. 23, 1817, in. Almira Jones Feb. 15, 1846. She was b. 1827, and d. Sept. 23, 1857. He m. 2 Mrs. Charlotte Holdern, dau. of Charles and Mary Little, May 15, 1860. Received the greater part of his schooling in the common schools, but attended

Marietta College a year or two. At the age of 21 Mr. Cone went to Cincinnati, where he engaged in teaming. Later be was occu­pied in taking produce to New Orleans on flatboats. After a •few years he became interested in the grocery business, and finally pros­pered so that he became owner of a large wholesale business. Shortly after his second marriage he removed his family_to his farm near Marietta. He served twenty-six years as Justice of the Peace. Honorable in all his dealings and charitable to a high degree, he was much respected by his fellow-men. He d. Sept. 13, 1895. his widow resides in Marietta.
