Charles Kestell (*9*8*1818 † 10/4/1905 was born in Wallis on 9/8/1818. He arrived with his parents Charles Kestell and Grace Wenmouth from Devonshire on board the Britsh Settler ship :"Ocean". They went to Natal in 1845.
- In 1848 he become a Trustee of the Wesleyaanse Church in Pietermaritzburg.
- On 5 October 1850 he became a member of the NG Church
- Hy was a "kuipmaker or "vatmaker" and stayed on stand 29, Bergstreet, Pietermaritzburg.
- Charles and his family were family friends of Erasmus Smit and his wife Susanna.
- Charles even shaved Smits "bard" (beard) for him.
- By 1872 he was a transport driver.
- In 1879 he became "ouderling" Elder of the NG Church.
- Charles kept a diary which is being held in the Institude for Eietydse Geskiedenis (INEG) in Bloemfontein.
- Kestells 1st wife was Dorothea Weyer (*26/3/1820 †2/9/1858) d.o. Frederik Willem Dreyer and Martha Elizabeth FOUCHE - married on 31/10/1845.
Dorothea WEYER's parents originally came from the Graaff-Reinet district and later from Cradock.
Charles Kestell and his wife were married by Daniel LINDLET inPietermaritzburg.

Dorothea died in 1858 at the age of 38. When she died the family were living at Bergstreet 26, Pietermaritzburg.
- Charles Kestell married for the second time on 24/8/1859 to Johanna Susanna v d Berg ( *5/9/1830 ≈16/10/1830 †19/2/1909) d.o. Hendrik van den Berg and Maria MAgdalena GOUWS.
- Charles died at the age of 86 on 10/4/1905 in his house at Bergstreet 26, Pietermaritzburg.
- Four years later in 1909 his 2nd wife died in her house Bergstreet 24, Pietermaritzburg.
- In her will it is stated that her stepson Cornelius Bejamen inherits the silver ware and John Daniel a diamond ring. This ring should have been inherited by the eldest son and been an heirloom.
Charles are buried in the Voortekker Begraafplaas Pietermaritzburg on stand 3E grave number 774. His 1st wife Dorothea Louis Weyer also on stand 3E and his 2nd wife in gravenumber 1003 on stand 3E.

- Charles het 'n dagboek bygehou wat vandag by die EIETYDSE INSTITUUT Vir Geskiedenis (INEG) in Bloemfontein bewaar word.
- Kestell se 1st vrou was Dorothea Louisa Weyer (*26/3/1820 †2/9/1858) d.v. Frederik Wilhelm En Martha Elisabeth fouxhe met wie hy op 31 Oktober 1845 in die huwelik getree het. Dorothea Weyer se ouers was aanvanklik vanaf die distrik Graaff- reinet afkomstig en later waarskynlik Cradock.
- Charles Kestell en sy vrou se huwelik is deur Daniel Lindley in Pietermaritzburg voltrek.
- Uit die huwelik is 5 kinders gebore.
- Sy sterf in 1858 op 38 jarige leeftyd. Met haar afsterwe het die gesin in 'n huis in Bergstraat 26, Pietermaritzburg gewoon.
- Charles Kestell trou weer op 24/8/1859 met Johanna Susanna van den Berg(*5/9/1830 ≈ 16/10/1830 † 19/2/1909), d.v. Hendrik v d Berg en Maria Magdalena Gouws.
- Charles sterf op 10 April 1905 in die ouderdom van 86 jaar.
- Vier jaar later kkom sy 2de vrou Johanna in 1909 te sterwe in haar huis te Bergstraat 244. In haar testament is bepaal dat haar stiefseun Cornelius Benjamin 'n silwer sakhorlosie erf en diamantring gaan aan John Daniel. Hierdie ring moes elke keer aan die oudste seun bemaak word as 'n erfstuk.
- In perseel 3E van die Voortrekker Begrafplaas te Pietermaritzburg is die grafte van Charles Kestell, Dorothea Louisa Weyer en Johanna Susanna v d Berg. Laasgenoemde se grafnommer is 1003
