Note: Because of a great deal of similar names, as well as multiple intermarriages in the Libby family tree, Charles Libby, author of The Libby Family in America devised a numbering system from the Immigrant. The immigrant is John Libby. Each child is numbered in order, so John Libby is Child 1 (or Libby 1). Each of his children is numbered in order (1-1, 1-2, 1-3) etc. and each of their children takes the digits of the parent and adds their birth order number.

Charles is Libby 1-6-9 (9th child of the 6th son of the first child of the Immigrant)

Charles Libby, born in Berwick, Me., 29 December 1721; married 24 Dec. 1744 Abigail Hinton. He was a farmer, and lived and died on his father's homestead. His death occurred 8 Sept. 1772. His wife outlived him.[1]

Their children were:

  • 1. Hannah, b. 18 Sept 1745; m. 8 Sept 1763, Samuel Shorey.
  • 2. Mary, b. 19 Oct. 1746; m. 21 Mar. 1765, Joseph Pray.
  • 3. Ebenezer, b. 8 Feb 1748; m. Elizabeth Quint
  • 4. Charles, b. 16 Dec. 1749; m. Sarah Pray

  • 6. Abigail, b. 30 Mar 1753; m. William Quint
  • 7. Jeremiah, b. 6 Feb 1755; went out in an American privateer during the Revolution, and never returned. He was unmarried.
  • 8. Benjamin, b. 4 Nov 1756; m. Mary Hamilton
