After Charles’s marriage he became the owner of the farm Rust en Werk in Daljosafat. It was the property of Maria’s first husband, Lodewyk Pretorius [+1718]. Charles served as corporal in the National force and was also a deacon in the Drakenstein congregation. Maria Rossouw was the daughter of Pierre Rossouw and Anne Retief she was also the widow of Lodewyk Pretorius. Maria Rossouw was born in 1693 in Paarl in the Cape of Good Hope. She was the widow of Lodewyk Pretorius and the daughter of Pierre Rousseau and Anna Retief. Together they had 6 children with 4 boys and 2 girls.
