The certificate number for Perry,Sr is 12934 Also at the Bath County site, I see this posted by someone, it came from an old Bath Newspaper... Date: May 29, 1897 Location: Kentucky Paper: Morning Herald: Owingsville, KY, May 28 -- The town has been filled with farmers today from all over Bath county and from Fleming. They came to attend the trials of the men who were wounded in Friday night's battle with the officers and the men arrested yesterday, charged with particiapting in that bloody raid. They were greatly surprised in reaching town to find it occupied with State troops. Every gate in the Court House yard fence was guarded by pickets, and every door leading into the Court house contained two or more soldiers with muskets and fixed bayonets. There was a great deal of growling, some threats and many wicked looks. There was much abuse of Judge Gudgell because he had asked for troops. Long before half past 9 o'clock at which time persons were allowed to enter the Court House , it became noised abroad that Judge Gudgell would have every man entering the temple of justice searched before going in. A great many of the friends of the raiders had come armed to the teeth, and when they heard this report they sent friends to Judge Gudgell to find out if it was true. He told them it was. Then the raiders began to "shuck" their guns. They put them in a drug store opposite the Court House, and it is said that more than two hundred big revolvers were put away in that store at one time. Then the men submitted to search, and every man that went into the Court House was carefully examined by a squad of State Guard. They found no weapons. When Judge Gudgell called the court to order at 10 o'clock the auditorium was filled with eager listeners. Soldiers were stationed at convenient points around the room, and at Judge Gudgell's right sat his special body guard, Perry Oakley, who has killed four or five men and is considered one of the most deadly pistol shots in Eastern Kentucky. Promptly at 10 o'clock, I.B. and W.W. Williams came into the court room carrying between them the body of the wounded raiders, Chas. Jones. They held him up by his shoulders, his feet barely touchig the floor. He is a tall, thin countryman. His attorneys waived examination. Judge Gudgell fixed his bail at $2500........
