About Charles White Phillips
Charles "Charley" White Phillips was the only known child of Josiah Phillips (1838-??) and Martha Craig Russell (1839-1890), who married 24 Dec 1858 at Bedford County, Tennessee. Josiah and Martha divorced sometime before 1876 when Martha and son Charles were living at Iron County, Missouri. Josiah served with the Union during the Civil War in the same regiment as some of Martha's Russell brothers. Josiah remarried and moved to Oklahoma, though nothing else is known of him. Martha remarried to Joseph D. Duncan on 12 Mar 1882 at Iron County, Missouri. In 1860 Josiah and Martha were living alone at Bedford County, Tennessee. In 1870 Josiah, Martha and son Charles were living at Rolla, Phelps County, Missouri.
Did Josiah remarry to Harriet G. Wray (1855-1930) and have three additional Phillips children? Did Josiah die in 1900 and then Harriet remarry to Mr. Dilliner and move to Oklahoma?
Charles married Permelia Elizabeth Asberry (1878-1955) on 27 Nov 1897 at Piedmont, Wayne County, Missouri. Charles and Permelia were the parents of five known children, namely:
1. Cecil White Phillips (1902-1973)
2. Mary Alice Phillips (1904-1905)
3. Cela Elizabeth Phillips Lenz (1906-1992)
4. James hadley Phillips (1909-2000)
5. Dewey Franklin Phillips (1912-1985)
Charley was a long time schoolteacher in the Reynolds, Iron, Wayne, and Madison County areas of Missouri.
