About Charles Perry Sellers

William Henry SELLER'S son, Charles, was hung in 1911 from a telephone pole by a group of four including Abigail's son: Harry HEATH. Newspapers of the time reported: "On the night of June 18, 1911 the four men(Harry HEATH, Kenneth MURPHY, Alma WEED & George WEED) who are now to pay the penalty of a life sentence, went to the home of Hutch JACK, with whom Charles SELLERS was staying, and took SELLERS from his bed and without allowing him to dress threw a rope around his neck, led him to a telephone pole several rods from the house, where they hung him." Charles SELLERS may not have resisted thinking they were only joking – because he had just been at a picnic Friday with them. Hutch JACK'S phone line was cut and he had to hike to neighbors next morning to report the crime – The four vigilantes and Eunice MURPHY went into Cody, NE the next morning revealing what had happened not expecting to be prosecuted. In the afternoon, the Sheriff arrived from Valentine and arrested all five. One of Charles's killers, Alma WEED, described him as a ‘degenerate' while Charlie's father said of him: "Charley was always a good boy – never knew him to harm anyone in my life."

William SELLERS was awakened at 5:00 AM the next morning by a phone call from son, Lee: "Dad, they've mobbed Charley". Upon arriving at Hutch JACK'S ranch he found his son's body hanging from the telephone pole "…swollen and blackened with the tonque protruding…" (See SellersCharles File)* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Oct 1 2018, 22:09:54 UTC
