Windows of Wellsville Wellsville History Committee 1985 Windows of Wellsville Y Charley LaVon Williams (1892-1948) Charley LaVon Williams was born 12 February 1892 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the son of Charles Gilbert and Delila Agusta Durfee Williams. His father died in Wellsville, Utah, when LaVon was eight years old; so he went to work at an early age and worked in a logging camp at age thirteen. He attended school in Wellsville and at the BYC in Logan, Utah. LaVon married Leona Newman of Bothwell, Utah, in the Logan Temple on.16 June 1915. They became the parents of eleven children. LaVon worked at the Garland, Utah, sugar factory and dry farmed at Howell, Utah, where he was the proud owner of one of the first tractors. Later they lived and farmed at Bothwell and then moved back to Wellsville. During World War II, he worked at the Army Supply Depot in Ogden, Utah. LaVon loved a good discussion and could stay up all night just talking. He died at age fifty-six on 11 July 1948 and is buried in the Wellsville cemetery.
