Will & Inventory of George Chappell

“The inventory of George Chappell was exhibited 8 June 1682 [NLCR 4:20]. His property was to be distributed ‘to the relict for the bringing up of the children and payment of debts’ and distribution was to be made to the children ‘John Chappell; George Chappell; Mary Daniela; Rachel Crocker; Elizabeth Chappell; Hester Chappell; and Sarah Chappell;’ and to ‘the two sons Nathaniel and Caleb the housing andlands’ in equal proportion [NLCR 4:20].
: “An unrecorded agreement among the sons George and Caleb to support their mother is implied an undated addition (but probably about 1712/3) to the inventory of George Chappell [Jr.], presented to the probate court , containing two sheep and ‘a parcel of land almost 20 acressome of which hath been improved being half the land which the fatherof said Chappell died possessed of for which land the deceased was obliged tone at half the charge of his Mothers maintenance during her life’ [NLPR 1:593]. This obligation rested solely on Caleb Chappell when, on 20 October 1714, George’s son Comfort sold the property and the obligation to his uncle Caleb [NLLR 6:347].”

It is possibly George Chappell’s wife Christian who was intended in the 1671 bequest of THOMAS BELL of Roxbury to ‘all the children of my sister Christian, on her body begotten, who married one Chappell or Chapment, I give and bequeath went pounds apiece, &c.’
