About Christian Henry Gudknecht
Christian Henry Gudknecht was the third son of John Gudknecht and Sarah Elizabeth Logan. He married Elizabeth Acheson at the Mariner's Bethel Church in Philadelphia. Christian Henry served two stints with the Union Army during the Civil War---the first with Company D, 112th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. Despite being discharged with a Certificate of Disability, Christian Henry reenlisted, this time serving with Company D, 187th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Volunteers. During the Battle of Petersburg, he was shot, resulting in the amputation of his left arm. He returned to Philadelphia and died at the age of 51.
