MUNJOR'S OLDEST RESIDENT IS DEAD

Christian Hertel, 83, Stricken With Heart Attack Last Saturday

Christian Hertel, 83, the oldest resident of Munjor, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Hertel was born May 10, 1855, in Obermunjor [sic-Obermonjour], Russia, and came to America in November, 1876, to take up a homestead four miles east of Munjor.

In 1881 he married Elizabeth Befort of Munjor, who died twenty years ago.

Mr. Hertel is survived by nine children, 61 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. The children are: Mrs. Joe Eberle [Catherine], Hays; Mrs. John B. Leiker [Barbara], Munjor; John Hertel and Mrs. Mike Fross [Anna], Hays; Peter C. Hertel, Munjor; Mrs. Frank M. Dinkel [Rosa], Victoria; Hilarius Hertel, Munjor; Mrs. Frank Weber [Anna Catherine], Bison; and Mrs. Joe Kinderknecht [Philomena], Menlo.

Funeral services were held at St. Francis church, Munjor, at 9 o'clock a. m. Monday, with Rev. Father Joseph, O.F.M. Cap., officiating. Burial was in the Munjor cemetery.

Pall bearers were: Hilarius and Ralph Eberle, Joe Fross, Mike Leiker, Hilarius Dinkel and Alvin Hertel, all grandchildren of Mr. Hertel.
