Birth: BET 1672 AND 1677 in Switzerland or Germany, fled to Amsterdam, Netherlands before emigrating to America Death: in Franconia Twp, Philadelphia Co (now Montgomery Co, ) PA (his will probated 6 Jun 1751) Note: He arrived in America from Europe sometime after 1700, probably around 171 7. Prior to 1719 he purchased a 150-acre farm in Indian Creek, Montgome ry Co, PA (then part of Philadelphia County.) Christian Meyer took his Oath Of Allegiance on 11 April 1743. It is thought that he was a brother of Hans Meyer, but be aware that this is not proven.
On 9 Mar 1728, Christian Meyer and Hans Meyer signed a petition to extend the Susquehanna Road from Towamencin Township up through Lower Salfo rd Township to Harleysville.
In the Landholders List of Philadelphia County for 1734, Christian Meyer is shown as owning 100 acres in Salford Township. He was a Yeoman (famer) and belonged to the Mennonite Congregation of Lower Salford. This is shown in the "History of Souderton" by Henry S. Landis, 1930 (republished in 1993 by Adams Apple Press, Bedminster, PA.) Christian Meyer Sr. purchased 150 acres in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County (which was Philadelphia County at that time). He had applied for a Warrant which was issued 6 Sep 1734 and recorded 4 Nov 1734. This property is located on the northeast corner of Sumneytown Pike (now hwy 63) and Harleysville to Souderton Pike (now hwy 113.) Christian Meyer is supposed to be buried at Delp's Burying Ground on Indian Creek Road in Franconia Twp, Montgomery Co, but there is no legible gravestone for him. Many of the old stones are just red fieldstone without engraving and many are illegible because of deterioration ov er 250 years. There is an old abandoned Meeting House across the road from the cemetery which was a Herrite Mennonite Meeting House in the early 1900's. However it started out as a Funkist Mennonite Meeting House in the early 1700's. This was a split from the Lower Salford Mennonites and was started by Henry Funk who was married to Christian Meyer 's daughter Anna. This is why it is thought Christian is buried there although there is no record of him leaving the Salford Mennonites. The Meyer Family Association erected a monument in honor of Christian and Hans Meyer in the cemetery of the Mennonite Church at Blooming Glen, Bucks Co, P A. The only reason it was erected there seems to be there were so many Meyers and Moyers living in that area at the time it was located there. (Source: www.moyer-meyer-genealogy.com by Mr. Linton E. Christian Meyer and his family from near Zurich Switzerland were being persecuted because of their Mennonite faith. They and many other Mennonites suffered at the hands of the government controlled by the Catholic church in the principality of Switzerland until they emigrated to the Rhine Valley in what is now Germany and eventually to the British Colonies in their search for religious freedom, peace and hope for a better life.

Life Sketch
Christian Meyer of Amsterdam, sailed to Philadelphia and later located at the Indian Creek in what is now Lower Salford Twp., Montgomery County, PA where he purchased his farm containing 150 acres. The date is unknown.
According to A genealogical Record of Christian and Hans Meyer by Rev. A.J. Fretz, Christian Meyer fled from Switzerland to Amsterdam, Holland because of religious persecution of Mennonites.
History of Franconia Twp., Montgomery County, PA by James Heckler says Christian bought land near Franconia in 1717, so he arrived in America sometime prior to 1717. It is not clear if this land is the same as the Lower Salford purchase described above.
His wife, Barbara, died before he wrote his will 1/18/1748. After his wife died, he sold his farm in Lower Salford to his grandson, Christian Meyer (son of Christian Moyer b. 1705). He lived with his son Christian in Franconia until his death.
The children in his will are Christian, Jacob, Samuel, Elizabeth married to Nicholas Oblinger, Anna married to Henry Funk, Barbara married to Abraham Reiff.
