Christina Crawford is the daughter and heiress of Alexander Crawford of Kerse in Ayrshire. Her mother was Hon. Christian McGill, youngest daughter and eventual heiress of James, Viscount Oxenfurd. The Moodie Book, p. 40
Christina Crawford, who was "somewhat of a character and a lady of strong passions" resided alternately at Aikerness House in Evie, the property of the Ballenden family, and at Melsetter. She managed the Melsetter estate during her son's minority and she "ruled with a rod of iron." The Moodie Book, p. 41
