Martin Swickard came with his family from Pennsylvania to the rich farm lands of Jefferson County where his children and grandchildren have tilled the soil. In the year 1814, we find him mentioned as one of the organizing members of the old Mt. Tabor Church. This M.E. Church first met at the home of Adam Jackman and continued to meet there for twelve years and at the and of that time, 1826, a brick building for church services was erected. In the little churchyard at Mt. Tabor, we find the graves of Martin Swickard, born 1746, died 1841, aged 95 years; Margaret Swickard born 1770, died 1840, and other member s of the family. Members of the Swickard family are also buried at Osage.
