About Christopher Peyton, of Bury St Edmunds

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Peyton-81

Christopher Peyton was a member of aristocracy in England.

Christopher Peyton was son of Francis Peyton & his wife Elizabeth (nee Brooke) [1]

Married Jane(Joane) Mildmay, the marriage must have been before 1540 when a grant of Mildenhall was made to Christopher Peyton of Bury & Joan his wife.[2]

This couple's eldest son Thomas married Cecelia Bouchier in 1561 - he was probably born about 1536

in 1552 commissioners were appointed for holding investigations in each county. For carrying out the purposes of a Pension Act, Sir William Drury, Sir Thomas Jermyne, and Sir William Walgrave, knts., Clement Higham, esq., and John Holt and Christopher Payton, gentlemen, were appointed as commissioners for Suffolk on 16 September, 1552.

He was dead by 1559 see indenture dated 10 Aug 1559 for sale of land at Mildenhall in which Joan is described as late the wife of Christopher Peyton deceased.

Jane/Joane is mentioned in the 1589 will of her brother Sir Walter Mildmay, she is still alive and left an anuity so she is unlikly to have been born much before 1510, so Christopher's birth may be slightly later than estimated.[3]

The 1561 Vistation of Suffolk gives PEYTON

Christopher (of Bury St Edmunds). son and heir to Francis married Jone daughter of Sir Thomas Mildmay of Essex and has issue; Thomas son and heir, Christopher, Henry, Francis, Ann, Elizabeth, Rose, Mary, Margaret & Martha.

Thomas Peyton son and heir to Christopher Peyton of Bury St Edmunds Co. Suffolk Esq. married Lady Cecil daughter to John Bourchier Earl of Bath.

Edmund Peyton 2nd son of Francis married to his first wife Joyce daughter and heir to Nicholas Grantham in Co. Lincs. and by her had no issue. After the said Edmund married to his second wife Anne daughter to Powntes (Poyntz) and by her has issue Susan.

I think this must be an accurate listing of the family as it was done at the time, Christopher had only been dead a year or so and Thomas had only just married Cecily Bourchier.

  • Peyton-127 showed marriage year as 1518; birth and death data is also from Peyton-127 (dates and places); Peyton-81 had about 1490/before 1560, St Edmunsdury/Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England
  • one profile had death information as "May 31, 1589 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England" - the 1589 date was probably from the brother's will; not sure where the location came from
