About Church Abiel Bassett
Church was the son of William and Nancy Pickins Bassett and the seventh of nine children. He was educated at the Winslow Public Schools and at Waterville Academy. He married Chloe Emery on November 13, 1873 in Maumee, Ohio.
Church traveled extensively, visiting or living in Maine, Ohio, Illinois, Missouri,and in 1898, Alaska. He farmed in Missouri for 40 years and was at one time employed by the Wabash Railroad as an engine fireman.
He and Chloe adopted a daughter, Clara, who married Oscar Koblitz. Church died from injuries received when kicked in the abdomen by a horse.
