About Chloe Ann Bassett
Chloe was the daughter of Samuel and Henrietta Race Emery. She married Church on November 13, 1873 in Maumee, Lucas County, Ohio. The couple moved extensively and farmed in Ohio, Illinois and Missouri where they finally settled. They lived there for 40 years. They adopted a daughter named Clara.
Chloe was the granddaughter of Andrew Race (1778-1857) who was a scout for General Anthony Wayne. He first appeared in Ohio about 1797 with Wayne's troops and then went back to New York to gather his family. About 1810, he returned and settled in the Maumee River valley with his mother and brothers: William, Robert, and John. His brother William was killed by Indians in 1814. Chloe would have been 8 years old when her grandfather died.
