FUNERAL FOR MRS. CLARA ARNEGARD HELD SEPTEMBER 14th
Mrs. Clara Justine Arnegard was born March 19, 1889 at Mayville to Bernt and Johanna Strom. She grew to womanhood there and received her education in the Mayville schools.
On June 30, 1906, she was united in marriage to Iver Arnegard, also of Mayville. Mr. Arnegard had filed a homestead at Arnegard in 1905, and here the couple made their home. Mrs. Arnegard was one of the few still living on her homestead. Building of the town of Arnegard began the next year, 1907, and the name Arnegard was chosen for the new town.
Mrs. Arnegard was an active member of Wilmington Lutheran church and the ALCW of which she was a charter member when it was organized as the ladies aid. She was a good friend and neighbor.
She had been in poor health for several years and made several visits to the hospital. Finally, about three weeks ago a severe heart attack sent her to the hospital. She rallied, but a blood clot caused gangrene in her left leg and it was necessary to amputate it just above the knee. She rallied from the operation, but her strength was spent. She passed away September 11, 1963 at the age of 74 years, five months and 22 days.
Funeral services were conducted by Pastor H. S. Skilbred in Wilmington Lutheran church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14th, and burial was in the Wilmington Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Iver, who passed away in 1950; her daughter, Eva, Mrs. Walter Oberg, in 1959, and her son Melvin, who passed away in 1961. Two brothers, Ed and Melvin Strom also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Mabel Johnson, Bottineau; two brothers, Hjalmer and Lawrence Holen of Arnegard; four grandchildren, Mrs. Lee Cave, Vancouver, WA; Mrs. Edward Wegner, Lake Oswego, OR; Cameron Arnegard, a student of Fargo and Evelyn Kay Arnegard, at home with her mother at Vancouver, WA and nine great grandchildren.
Pastor and Mrs. Skilbred sang a duet at the service and Clarence Leiseth was soloist. They were accompanied by Mrs. Albert Arnegard Jr.
Pallbearers were George Bremseth, Henry Sovig, Andrew Stenehjem, John Bruins, Albert Arnegard Jr. and Austin Holo.
Relatives here for the funeral service were: Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Johnson, Bottineau, and their two sons, Orville Johnson and family, Fergus Falls, MN and Everett Johnson, Hopkins, MN; Mrs. Minerva Arnegard, Vancouver, WA; Mrs. Ellen Sausker, Westhope, accompanied by Mrs. Orpha Wood, Bottineau and Mrs. Brennan, Westhope; Mr. and Mrs. Joe McMenamy, Larimore, and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Rindy, Baker, MT.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of the Leiseth Funeral Home, Watford City, ND.
