KAPLAN Services for Claude Vern Kaplan, 71, Hot Springs, were May 12 at McColley's Chapel of the Hills in Hot Springs, with the REV. Gary Warren officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Hot Springs. Pallbearers were Carl Anderson, Arthur (Jiggs) Mower, John Pirall, Tim Anderson, Dewayne Connell, Lee Renstrom and Dwight Sholl. Honorary Pallbearers were Jesse English, Bud slagel, and All grandsons and Granddaughters. Kaplan died May 09 in Rapid City Regional Hospital He was born June 16, 1916, in Sparks Neb., to Frank Vern Kaplan and Sarah Jane Todd. He attended high school in Valentine, Neb., and married Lola Marie Sharp Dec. 08, 1934, in Valentine. He lived and worked in Sparks and Valentine and Hot springs. He was a musician, a carpenter, a butcher, an electrician, a school custodian, and, most recently, a nurse's aide at Hot Springs Veterans Administration Medical Center. Kaplan was a Amateur Radio Relay League member and operator, and a member of the Black Hills Amateur Radio Club. Surviving are his wife, Lola of Hot Springs; one daughter, Elnora V. Prelle of Hot Springs; four sons, Donavan V. Kaplan of Copperas Cove, Texas, LeRoy M. of Hot Springs, William F. of Woodinville, Wash., and Gary G. of Madison, Tenn.; four sister, Evelyn Dunn, Clara Swanson and Agnes Sharp, all of Valentine, and Mildren Sloan of Salem, Ore.; one brother, Earl Kaplan of Huast, Texas; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
