Cletus Anthony Geisler age 87 of Mt. Sterling passed away at 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Sept 4, 2004 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Mt. Sterling.

He was born December 15, 1916 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Cornelius V. and Sophia B. Markert Geisler.

He married Mildred L. "Milly" Downs on Jan 31, 1948 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling; she survives.

Mr. Geisler, a lifelong Brown County Farmer, attended Fairview School in Brown County and graduated from St Mary's Academy, the Class of 1934.

Mr. Geisler was a veteran of World War II having served his country in the US Army Air Corps for 46 months.

He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling.

Mr. Geisler was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1281 having served as Grand Knight, Secretary and District Deputy. He also held membership in the Nocturnal Adoration Society and the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374. Mr. Geisler was an active member of several local farm organizations and served as a 4-H Leader for many years.

Cletus was always known as someone who was willing to help.

He devoted numerous volunteer hours to Holy Family Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, St. Mary's School and the Dominican Sisters Convent.

He also enjoyed gardening and sharing the produce from his garden with his neighbors and friends.

Survivors include his wife: Mildred L. Milly Geisler of Mt. Sterling.

Four children: Steven Geisler, wife Nancy of Phoenix, Arizona Jim Geisler, wife Denise of Bloomington, Illinois Marsha Schoeneman, husband Mark of Singapore Mark Geisler, wife Nicky of Mt. Sterling.

Nine grandchildren: Paul and Laura Geisler of Phoenix, Arizona Jennifer and Brian Geisler of Bloomington, Ill Jerad, Jocelyn, Jenny & Jacob Geisler of Mt. Sterling Mackenzie Baker of Singapore.

One sister also survives: Sister Mary Joseph of the Passionist Convent, Ellisville, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Leon E. Geisler.

Friends may call any time after 3:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept 6, 2004, at the Hendricker Funeral Home in Mt. Sterling; the family meeting friends from 5:00 until 8:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.

Friends may also call from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling; Monsignor Carl Kemme officiating.

Burial will be in the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery with military services to be conducted at the graveside by the Mt. Sterling American Legion Post #374.

Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery, the Brown County United Way or the Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice.
