About Sister Mary Joseph Geisler

In Memoriam of Sister Mary Joseph (Geisler) of Jesus Crucified

April 14, 1921 - March 14, 2015

Sister Mary Joseph (Geisler) of Jesus Crucified C.P., Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, Saturday, March 14, 2015.

She was born in Mount Sterling, Ill. As a contemplative nun, her main apostolate was prayer. During her 67 years in the convent she served in many capacities; she had been Superior, Vicar, Novice Mistress and held just about every office. Sister spent many years in the Altar Bread Department making hosts for parishes, hospitals and schools. She will always be remembered as "Cook-Extraordinaire" for her Community and every guest who visited and for always generously taking part in all the domestic work of the monastery and garden. In addition to prayer Sister Mary Joseph enjoyed sewing, mending clothing, recreational needlework and canning.

In a letter dated March 15, 2015, Mother Mary M. Veronica, C.P. offered the following remarks to other Passionist Nuns Convents in the country:

Dear Mother and Sisters,

Our Sister Mary Joseph passed away last evening at 7:20 p.m. The Community was praying the Rosary for her. It was peaceful and gentle.

We ask for your prayers for her, who was 93 and had entered the monastery 67 years ago - about 6 months after the foundation began in 1948. She truly helped begin our presence here and "Joseph" was the perfect name for her. She was virtually the hardest worker here. May she now rest in the deepest peace in the Heart of Jesus Crucified. May God reward you!

Mother Mary M. Veronica, C.P.

Funeral Mass at Passionist Nuns Chapel, 15700 Clayton Road, Ellisville, Monday 10:00 a.m. Visitation at the Passionist Nuns Monastery on Sunday 1 to 5 p.m. Friends may sign the on-line guestbook at Schrader.com
