Clive Bernard Zobel was born April 18, 1898 to Philip Henry Zobel and Hattie Elizabeth Larison Zobel in Alliance Nebraska. He died July 01, 1917 in Oregon.
Sherman County Historical Society states: Clive Zobel drowned in the John Day River. He was attempting to swim the river to a claim that he had on the other side of the John Day River. The family was alerted when his horse arrived home with his shoes tied to the saddle. His body was located with a broken neck. At first they suspected foul play, but his money, watch, etc. were found under a rock. It was concluded that most likely he was swimming along side of the horse, when the horse spooked probably lunging and kicking him.
Rev. B.T. Smith of Moro preached the service at Monkland.
