Colonel Henry Conway served in the 6th Virginia Regiment and the 14th Virginia Regiment obtaining the rank of Col., he resigned his commission 3/12/1779. Sometime around 1783 he moved with his family to the Nolachucky Settlement (Lost State of Franklin, N.C.- Now Washington County, Tenn.). He was one of the five commissioners appointed to treaty with the Cherokee Indians in1786 in the "Lost State of Franklin," which existed in East Tennessee between 1784 - 1788. He was a member of its Legislature in 1786.
His sons were also highly successful in that Thomas Conway married Ann Rector. According to Ripley's "Believe it or Not" Rector was featured as "wife of a senator, aunt of a senator, aunt of a governor, mother of a congressman, mother of a chief justice, and mother of two governors of Arkansas. His daughters prospered through marriages to; Nancy married the son of Gov. John Sevier, Elizabeth Married another son of Gov. Sevier, another daughter Susannah married into the Sevier family and her son Ambrose H. Sevier became a U.S. Senator from the State of Arkansas. All accounts of Henry's life show that he was a man of full habits and gracious hospitality to all those many visitors to his home.
He died of bee stings.
