COMMENT: The imaged pages do not match the described document. Pages 88–89 are imaged, and the header tells us to look for “number 1953 circled on the left margin of page 89,” but the two circled numbers on page 89 are 1988 and 1989. The missing document appears to be this one that I found immediately after another tract issued to John: “Know ye that we have granted unto John Mills two hundred acres of land in Rutherford County, on the south side of White Oak or Mill Creek, including a shoal on said creek.” Beginning at a pine Twittey’s corner, thence with Twittey’s line S 62 E 200 poles to a pine Twittey’s corner, thence S 62 E 46 poles to a stake on Camps line, thence with his line S 10 E 12 poles to a pine on Camps line, thence S 60 W 170 poles to a pine, thence S 75 W 100 poles to a stake, thence to the beginning. COMMENT: The database’s catalog description of this document identies the waterway as “Skywekee Creek {Skyuks Creek}.” Several subsequent grants to John Mills and “Colo.” John Mills are dated 1821–36 on Pacolet River, Alstons Creek and Silver Creek (both in one document dated 1827, indicating that the creeks are in close proximity) and Bright’s Creek. I am not continuing with extracts for his subsequent grants. One 1827 Doc. (Book 137:282, film 108.60.37N frame 682) is for “John Mills (little) … both sides of Rottens Creek of Green River” in Rutherford.
