Chapter V.

The descendants of Marville Mills, son of Eleanor Morris and Major William Mills.

Marville Mills of North Carolina married Polly Chambliss. Their children were John Mills, Dr. Otis Mills, William Mills, Dr. Ladson Mills, Penelope Eliza Mills, Adolphus Mills and George Mills.

John Mills, son of Marville Mills, married Eliza C. Graham. Their children were Mary, who died young; Jane who married Mr. Love; Otis P.; and two others whose names could not be learned.

Captain Otis P. Mills, son of John Mills, married Susan C. Gower of Greenville, South Carolina. Captain Mills commanded a company in the Confederate Army. After the Civil War he amassed a large fortune and has an interest in a manufacturing company in Greenville, South Carolina. Their children were Annie M., Jane G., Otis P., Arthur L., and Cordelia Mills.

Dr. Otis Mills, second child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Miss Carson. He and his wife were from Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Their children were Margaret, Mary, and Amanda. Amanda married Mr. Williams of Greenville, South Carolina. Margaret married Joseph Carson of Atlanta, Georgia. Their children were Otis Mills, Frank, Tench, Kathleen, and Matilda Carson. Mary Mills married Colonel Frank Coxe of Philadelphia and Asheville. Their children were Otis Mills, Frank, Tench, Daisy, and Maud Coxe. Colonel Frank Coxe, who died in the summer of 1903, was buried in the family vault in Rutherfordton, North Carolina. Otis Mills Coxe married Miss Mary Connelley, of Asheville, North Carolina, in 1893. Her father was a very wealthy citizen of that town. In 1899 they became divorced, when he went to live in Philadelphia and New York. The division of his late father's mining interests in Pennsylvania gave him two million dollars. Colonel Frank Coxe is also owner of the Battery Park Hotel, in Asheville, North Carolina. In August, 1903, Otis M. Coxe married his second wife, Miss Gertrude Jones of Asheville. They left for California and sailed for Santa Catalina Island to spend their honeymoon. The first Mrs. Otis M. Coxe had one child, Tench Francis Coxe, twelve years old, in 1905. They are both known for their horsemanship. Tench Coxe, married Eliza Potter of Wilmington, North Carolina. Daisy Coxe married Mr. Wright of Philadelphia.

William Mills, third child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Miss Gaffney.

Dr. Ladson Mills, fourth child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Miss Hamilton.

Penelope Eliza, the fifth child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Paul Hamilton Young. Their only child, Eliza Penelope Young, was born 1843, in Flat Rock, North Carolina, and married in 1867 at Water Valley, Mississippi, to Baird Reed Godwin, who was born in 1837 in Texas.

Sophia, the sixth child of Marville and Polly Mills, married John Caruth.

Adolphus, the seventh child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Amanda Mills.

George, the eighth child of Marville and Polly Mills, married Ella Boylston. His second wife was Eliza Mills.
