Mottrom (or Mottram or Mottrone; sources conflict greatly) Dulany Ball (June 23, 1835 - September 13, 1887) was an American lawyer, newspaper publisher, Confederate Army officer and collector of customs for the United States Department of the Treasury. From March 27, 1878 to June 13, 1879, he was the highest-ranking federal official in the Department of Alaska, making him the de facto governor of the territory.
Attended William and Mary. Teacher and lawyer. Confederate officer, wounded twice. U.S. district attorney in Alaska.
Mottrom Ball enlisted in Company F, 5th Virginia Cavalry Regiment on 25 Apr 1861. Promoted to Full Major. Promoted to Full Lt Col on 23 Jul 1863. Mustered out on 05 Feb 1863. Transferred to Company I, 11th Virginia Cavalry Regiment on 05 Feb 1863.
