Robert Harris III (son of Robert Harris II and Elizabeth Turner) was born 1710 and died 1786 in Granville Co., NC. He served in the Granville Militia and earned the title of Colonel. He was Sheriff of Granville Co.
Family
Lemender Smith and Robert Harris III married 1732, at Brunswick Co., VA. (?). (Her first name may have been Leminder)
Children of Lemender Smith and Robert Harris III are:
- Christopher Harris, d. date unknown.
- David Harris, d. date unknown.
- Robert Harris IV, d. date unknown.
- Samuel Harris, d. date unknown.
- Sherwood Harris, d. date unknown.
- +Mary Harris, b. Abt. 1735, Hanover Co., VA, d. Jul 20, 1807, College Grove, Williamson Co., TN.
- +Thomas Harris, b. 1740, Granville Co. NC, d. Oct 27, 1779, Granville Co. NC.
- Lemender Harris, b. Abt. 1746, d. date unknown.
1787 – The Granville County, North Carolina tax list names the following Harris family members; David (son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), Richard, Robinhood (possibly Reuben Harris, son of William Harris of Prince Edward County, Virginia/OR Robert, son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), Gileson (probably Goldman, son of Claiborne “Ned” Harris), Edward, Thompson (probably Claiborne Thompson Harris, son of Claiborne “Ned” Harris and Judith Coleman), John (probably son of Capt. Sherwood Harris), Edward, Christopher (possibly son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), Gilliam, Claiborne (probably Claiborne “Ned” Harris, son of Capt. Thomas Harris, Sr. and Mary Giles), and Samuel (probably son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith).
1790 – The Granville County, North Carolina census names the following Harris family members; Robert (son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), Charles (probably son of William Harris of Mecklenburg County, Virginia), Harrison, John (probably son of Capt. Sherwood Harris), Christopher ( probably son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), Edward, Richard, Anthony, Charles (probably son of William Harris of Mecklinburg County, Virginia), Christopher (probably son of Thompson Harris, Sr), George, John (probably son of Thompson Harris, Sr.), Claiburn (probably Claiborne “Ned” Harris), Darnin (probably David, likely a son of Thomas Harris, Jr. of Prince Edward County, Virginia), Samuel (son of Col. Robert Harris and Leminder Smith), John, Robert (son of Claiborne “Ned” Harris and Judith Coleman), Samuel (likely son of William Harris of Mecklenburg County, Virginia), and “Sherward” (could they have meant “Sherrard”? – Obviously son of Capt. Sherwood Harris)). No Thompson is listed.
NOTE: These Harris families residing in the same county indicates likely close relationships. The fact that, apparently, children of Thompson Harris, Sr. resided close to these other Harris family members indicates that Thompson Harris, Sr. was related to them, if nothing else (other than the name “Claiborne”) does.
Will
Robert names the following children in his will: Thomas Harris, Mary Ogilvie, Lemender Hampton, Christopher Harris, Sherwood Harris, Robert Harris, David Harris and Samuel Harris. He also names his wife in the will as Lemender.

Group 6 carries the DNA line of RM269 and may tie into Sherwood Harris and his brothers, Robert III and Richard who married Kimbrough. Study continues.
