Col. R.G. Scott was born 12/22/1791 was born in Savannah, GA.
His father, Capt. James Scott was an officer in the Revolution. He was the nephew of Gen. Charles Scott, 1st Governor of KY and Major Scott of Virginia.
He graduated from the University of Georgia and at the age of 20, he went to William & Mary where he earned Bachelor Degrees in the Arts and Law.
He practiced Law in Williamsburg.
He married Susan Randolph Madison, the daughter of Bishop Madison in 1811.
At the outbreak of the War of 1812, he commanded a Cavalry Co.
After the war was over, he represented the County of York in the Virginia Legislature.
He was a prominent Mason in Virginia; having been the Grand Master of the Lodge of Virginia.
Col. Scott was also a prominent member of the State Convention which formed the Constitution of VA before the war.
He never would accept a Federal Office until he was appointed US Consul at Rio de Janeiro.
It was while he was in that position that he married Mrs. Mary W Willett, widow of Hon. James Willett in Monroe County, AL in 1854.
They relocated to that County and the life of a peaceful planter.
