Biography

Samuel DuVal was born in King William County, Virginia on 22 Jan 1714 to Daniel Duval and Philadelphia DuBois. Samuel married Lucy Claiborne and had 8 children. He died in 1783 in St Johns parish, “Mount Comfort,” Henrico County, Virginia, USA.

Samuel DuVal was appointed one of the trustees of Richmond, VA, 1752 and again in 1773 when the authority of the trustees was enlarged. He was a justice of Henrico Co., VA as early as 2 Oct 1752; served as a member of the House of Burgesses, 1772-76; and was a member of the first and second Virginia conventions, 1775-76. He was elected a member of the Henrico County Committee of Safety and Correspondence, 17 Nov 1774, and again 6 Nov 1775. In 1780 he was appointed by the General Assembly to the committee to locate and lay off the Capitol Square in Richmond.

Samuel DuVal was the son of Daniel DuVal. In 1745 he married Lucie Claiborne the daughter of William and Elizabeth Whitehead Claiborne. They were married in King William Co., Virginia. The location of his burial is unknown in the Saint John Cemetery.
