Thomas Bedford -- County Justice Cumberland Co 1749. Lunenburg), (1756-64), and Charlotte Co up to 1778 (The Ligon Family Vol. 1 p 752 he also represented Charlotte Co in the Virginia House of Delegates (1788)). From “The Bedford Family of Virginia" (page 16) "Thomas Bedford married first, Mary Ligon Coleman, dau of John Coleman and Mary Ligon, 24 Sept 1750, in Cumberland Co VA b 18 July 1731 in Bristol Parish Prince George Co VA, died 1769 in Charlotte Co VA. Baptism: 10 Aug 1731 Bristol Parish Prince George Co.VA.
“Thomas and his wife moved from Cumberland Co to Lunenburg Co, Parish of Cornwall, where they occupied lands patented to Stephen Bedford, father of Thomas. These lands were on Twitty’s Creek, near the present village of Drake’s Branch VA. It is probable that most, if not all, of Thomas and Mary Bedford’s children were born at this place.
Some time after the death of Mary Ligon, Thomas married Drucilla Williamson 1775 of Chesterfied Co VA and built a commodious home, known as “Locust Grove.” Drucilla was married by Rev. Edward Almon to John SPENCER on 24 April 1788 in Charlotte Co., VA"
