About Colonel Charles A. McDaniel (CSA)
President and co-founder of Bowdon College, Carroll Co.,Georgia (existed 1857-1936). The college closed its doors briefly when all but two of the students (one blind, one with no arms) entered the Confederate Army. The president, Colonel Charles A. McDaniel, and 128 of the 144 students died in the War.
Charles Addison McDaniel married Victoria A. Hines in 1855, daughter of J. Charlton Hines and Ann Maria Mann.
Col Charles A. McDaniel was mortally wounded while commanding the 41st Georgia Regiment at the Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862. He died on 19 October, 1862. His brother, George, sent $400 to have his body shipped from Kentucky to Newton County, Georgia. An honor guard took the casket pulled by six white horses for burial at the Bowdon Methodist Protestant Church Cemetery in Bowdon, Carroll County, Georgia, USA.
