About Colonel Field Jefferson

Field Jefferson ( 16 March 1702 - 10 February 1765) was Thomas Jefferson's uncle, the older brother of his father, Peter Jefferson.[1] He was the third child of Thomas Jefferson (1677-1731) and Mary Field (1679-1715).
His first wife is believed to have been named Mary Frances Robertson (SIC: her maiden name is not known; see notes) (1706-1750) and they had nine children:[2]

- Elizabeth Jefferson (1736-?)
- Frances Jefferson (1738-1766)
- George Jefferson (1739-1780)
- Mary Jefferson (1740-?)

- John Robertson Jefferson (1742-1809)
- Phoebe Jefferson (1743-1830) m. Alexander Clark[3]
Field Jefferson married a second time in 1753, to Mary Allen "of Albemarle County." No children were born to Field and his second wife.[4]

A correspondent of Mr. Landon C. Bell writes: Field Jefferson was twice married; First to Frances____, who died February 26, 1750. His second wife was Mary Robertson who survived him. I do not know the last name of his first wife. He was born in 1702 and died February 16, 1765."

Mary was the daughter of William II and Tabitha (Underwood) Bowler Hunt. William Allen was the overseer on the Minge plantation. On 12 Jul 1726, William Allen and his wife Mary sold 200 acres in Surry Co VA to John Allen, "being part of 4342
acres granted William Hunt on 24 Oct 1707, and by him willed to his dau, the above named Mary Allen". On 18 Nov 1741, Mary's daughters Tabitha Minge and George Baskerville (for his wife Martha Minge) sold 375 acres in Goochland Co VA to William Allen, being the land left by Robert Minge to his wife Mary. William Allen died in 1752, and Mary went to visit her Minge

daughters in Lunenburg Co VA. On 31 Oct 1753 Mary Allen and Field Jefferson applied for a marriage bond in Lunenburg Co, with George Baskerville as surety. On 1 Nov 1753 Mary and Field signed an agreement to not claim the other's assets upon the death of the other...The agreement was witnessed by George Baskerville, and recorded 1 Jan 1754 at Lunenburg Co VA.
