Notes

From https://www.genealogy.com/forum/surnames/topics/nichols/13052/

I don't know how that rumor started, but although Mary Jefferson did indeed marry a Nichols it was not Julius.
Field Jefferson, father of Mary, signed his will in Lunenburg Co VA in 1762 and in it he very clearly stated that his daughter Mary was married to William Nichols, and that they had two children, Susannah and William. That William was the only son of William Nichols who made his will in 1762 Lunenburg Co and died by early 1763.THAT William who died in 1763 left a widow Mary and had a brother Julius.
In 1772 Mary Jefferson's husband William made his will, leaving several children including William and Susannah, though not the same Susannah that Field Jefferson had named in his will. And, William's wife Mary too had died by the time that will was made.
