EVERETT, Sir William (1844-1908) Born 20 April 1844, son of Revd. Thomas and Mrs. Gertrude Everett (née Walker). Educated Marlborough, (one term) 1856; Sandhurst. Entered army (26th Foot) 1864. Married Maria-Georgina Quartano, 1870 (2 daughters).

Appointed Vice-Consul at Erzerum, 1878. Travelled to Rumelia with Col. Ardagh to map Russian frontier, 1879. Consul for Kurdistan, 1882-88. Reported on defences at Erzerum; British member of Turco-Russian Boundary Commission; famine relief work in Armenia, 1883. Attacked by intruder in his house at Erzerum and badly wounded,1885. Resigned from Consular Service, 1888. Professor of Military Topography, Staff College, Camberley, 1888. KCMG, 1898. Died 9 August 1908.


Born 20 April, 1844, Sir William Everett, KCMG, joined the Duke of Wellington's Regiment (33rd) in 1864, and rose to become Lieut Col (local) in 1883. From approximately 1870-75, he was Instructor of Military Drawing at The Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. On 2 April, 1879, as a Captain, he was appointed Assistant to Her Majesty's Commisioner for the Delimitation of the Frontiers of Bulgaria. Captain Everett, holding Her Majesty's Royal Commission, was appointed Vice-Consul at Erzeroum in Kurdistan, Turkey. From 1882-88, he was Consul for Kurdistan. On 1 January, 1888, he was appointed Professor of Military Topography at the Staff College. He was created KCMG in 1898, and retired as Assistant Adjutant-General for Intelligence at the War Office. Sir William married Marie Georgina Quartano (of Corfu) in 1870. He died 9 August, 1908.
