Colonel William Trigg, Jr. was born in 1742 in Bedford, Bedford County, Virginia, United States. His parents were Judge William Trigg, Sr., and Mary Trigg. He was a Col. of the 5th Regiment at the battle of Yorktown.

William married Sarah Kent Trigg on February 28, 1765 in Orange, Sampson, North Carolina, United States. Together they had the following children:

Caswell County, North Carolina was the home of the prominent Saunders family. William married Sarah Saunders about 1765, daughter of Colonel James Saunders. At one time he served as a Justice of the Peace, a prominent position in those days. William Trigg, Jr. was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of Bedford County, Virginia troops, 1778, and was Colonel at close of the war.
