About Constance Honora Dumaresq: She was born in Yorkshire & christened at Almondbury, Highland Scotland two months after her birth. Her father Bentley Shaw was a Brewer, landowner & Justice of the Peace. In the 1861 census, Constance was living with her family at Lockwood. She was 7 years of age & a scholar. Her elder siblings were Robert B Shaw (1843) scholar, Ada L Shaw (1851) scholar. There were two younger siblings Frederick A Shaw(1855) & Gertrude Annie(1856) There were 4 servants in the house. In 1871, Constance Honora (17) & Herbert (7) were the only children at home with Bentley Shaw & Jane Elizabeth Shaw, their mother, but there were now seven servants including a Butler, William Darwin (28), born Bracebridge, Lincolnshire, a cook, a nurse & 4 housemaids, so Elizabeth Jane Shaw must have needed more help & possibly Bentley Shaw needed to entertain more...Constance Honora Shaw was married at St George Hanover Square, London in 1884 January-March. to John Dumaresq, a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Jersey Militia. She was his second wife. Her sister Ada L Shaw was also married in 1884 in this church to Thomas Carrington, an engineer. Constance Honora & John Dumaresq had three children in rapid succession: Lancelot(1887), Elaine Shaw Dumaresq (1888) & Guinevere Dumaresq (1889). .In November 2013, Rev Brian Rostill, Rector of St Mary's Church, Jersey JE3 3DB informed me that there was an old wooden lectern dedicated to Constance Honora Dumaresq in his church: " This lectern has a plaque dedicated to Constance and the birth & death dates match along with her maiden name. Though the writing is in a fairly old font we believe the surname may possibly be Dumaresq ." However, Constance Honora died on 30th March 1891, in Fontenay, Jersey..' 4th July 1891 The will of Constance Honora Dumaresq, wife of John Dumaresq formerly of Woodfield House, Huddersfield, in the County of York but late of Fontenay Jersey in the Channel Islands who died 30th March 1891 at Fontenay was proved at the Principal Registry by the said John Dumaresq of Fontenay, Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Jersey Militia, the sole executor.
