MRS. CORA DAMON IS DEAD WELL KNOWN RESIDENT SUCCUMBS IN CALIFORNIA
Services for Widow of Contractor Will Be Held Here Sunday Afternoon
Mrs. Cora Damon, about 80 years old, well-known former Carthage resident passed away in San Gabriel, Califonia, according to word received here today. The body will reach Joplin at 12:23 o'clock Sunday morning over the Kansas City Southern and be brought to Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Knell service home. The Rev. H. R. Roslen, pastor of the First Methodist church, will be in charge. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. Mrs. Damon came to Carthage with her parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Cassidy, from Wisconsin when she was a young woman. Mrs. Damon was married here to Nelson Damon, well known contractor and builder. Mr. Damon was killed by a falling block of marble November 17, 1904, in Neosho where he had the contract for construction of a bank building. Mrs. Damon spent the winter months in San Gabriel with her son, Arthur Damon, for a number of years, returning here for the summer. She moved to California five years ago and had an apartment at Alhambra. She had been in failing health some time. While a resident of Carthage, Mrs. Damon was active in the First Methodist Church. she organized a Sunday school class of young women that later became known as the J. O. C. class and is now the Women's Bible class. She also was a member of the women's organization of the church. She formerly was a member of chapter A. P. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. The son, Arthur Damon, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Dave Damon, also of California, are the only surviving relatives. Mrs. Dave Damon suffered a fractured hip sometime ago and is in a San Diego hospital.
